We have all been hearing about the threat to our future through climate change and its link to carbon emissions.
Our goal is to help you and others lead the way to a lower carbon future by reducing emissions by 60% by 2025 - the 60% challenge.
Here at CRed, we have developed a set of pledges for use at home or work to help you reduce your emissions. These range from making easy changes like swapping to low energy light bulbs through to adjusting your lifestyle to reduce your carbon footprint.

Energy Monitor Loan Scheme

Essex residents are now able to borrow an energy monitor from their local library, in the same way they pop in to take out a book or a DVD.
About 100 monitors are permanently located in the 73 libraries and 12 mobile libraries across the county. They can be taken out for up to three weeks, free of charge, and used by householders to monitor how much electricity they are using.
The device enables residents to see where power is being wasted so they can adjust their usage. The monitor is very simple to operate and takes about five minutes to set up. A sensor clips on to an insulated cable from the electricity meter, working with a monitor to measure electricity use. It can convert the amount into a monetary value, based on the cost of your electricity. It updates every six seconds so householders can see easily the cost of turning on the TV or making a cup of tea. There is no cable cutting, unscrewing or anything dangerous involved and full instructions will be provided.
